1957 Corvette SS and SR2

Chevrolet brought the Corvette SS and SR2 to Sebring in 1957, along with two cars that looked like stock Corvettes. The SS retired after 23 laps.

Sebring 1957: After making a nice showing at Sebring in 1956, Corvette showed up in 1957 with a couple of prototype models, the SS and SR2, along with 2 "stock" looking Corvettes and a couple practice cars. The SS was a big hit and everyone speculated how well it would hold up under the stress of the Sebring circuit. Turns out, it wouldn't last long and was retired after 23 laps. The other 3 Vettes would all finish and in the top 16 overall, with 2 finishing in the top 2 spots in their class.

The start of the race. Since the Corvettes had the largest displacement among the entries, they were given the spots at the front of the grid.

The SR2 making its way through the Esses. A beautiful car that still resides with us today. It had so many state of the art features on it for its time in the early days of Corvette history.
